Interview with Shandra McDonald

What do you currently do for a living and what is your dream?
Currently, I am an award-winning film director, writer and producer. I also write and produce for television. My dream is to be a successful filmmaker writing, producing and directing my own feature-length films.

What is The Last Adam about?
Check out the synopsis online.

As the screenwriter, how did you come up with the concept, how long did it take you to write it, how many edits/versions did you do, and what is your writing method?
The concept was presented to me by Erroll Bailey. He had a script that he had written four years ago that was in need of a complete rewrite, and that was where I came in. I wrote the first draft of the script in a month...had about five rewrites...that part never ends. Prior to that, I did write an extensive character analysis, scene outline, and a treatment for the project.

How has your WIFTA membership benefited your career?
Women in Film has benefited me considerably as an industry professional by creating camaraderie with other like-minded professionals about the business. WIFTA Board Member Kristen McGary was a recipient of this same award a few years ago for her film, Ociee Nash. Her insight helped me and my team considerably in putting our best foot forward in winning the award. This is a true testament of the power of the Women in Film network.
