EuropeActive and the Women in Fitness Association (WIFA) have announced today, 8th March, International Women's Day, the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which lays down the terms in which both sector representatives will strengthen their international cooperation to ensure the most positive future in terms of equal opportunities and equal treatment in the fitness and physical activity sector.

WIFA and EuropeActive will work together in a mutual and coordinated way, bringing together their respective strengths for a positive sectoral impact worldwide. EuropeActive and WIFA will lead by example and commitment to take concrete steps towards Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI), incl. gender balance and gender equality initiatives. These initiatives will fall under the Community headline of EuropeActive's Horizon 2025 Sectoral Manifesto.

WIFA CEO Lindsey Rainwater commented: “Partnering with EuropeActive as a strategic partner is a direct outcome of the Women in Fitness Association (WIFA’s) mission at work. We believe that the opportunity to create a more diverse, inclusive and equitable industry is of paramount importance to the future. More women must be in leadership roles, at boardroom tables and impacting the world at large.  WIFA’s capacity to make a meaningful impact on the industry in Europe is enhanced by our collaboration with Europe Active. Their influence is vast and 20+ years of experience will only strengthen our capacity to make a difference for women in Europe.

A very simple and strategic outcome we wish to achieve together is to ensure that more women have speaking and presentation opportunities in the European market. To see women published and author their stories as well and ensure more women of colour are influencing the fitness industry at large. We look forward to seeing big progress in the European market. With this partnership we will be creating more growth opportunities and pathways for women in fitness".

EuropeActive Executive Director Andreas Paulsen stated: “We are delighted to sign this partnership agreement with WIFA demonstrating European and worldwide unity and vision of the fitness and physical activity sector during challenging times. EuropeActive's new partnership with the Women in Fitness Association is a concrete example of our ambition to work for more democratic and inclusive communities, particularly in our sector’s domains of fitness and physical activity.

Under the Community headline of EuropeActive’s Horizon 2025 Sectoral Manifesto, our partnership with WIFA represents a significant step towards more inclusive workplaces in our sector and a more meritocratic workforce. EuropeActive will continue to build and strengthen our horizontal collaboration and Active Alliances with partner associations who share our vision for the future of the fitness and physical activity sector as defined by our Manifesto", he concluded.
